luna moth magic (last june)

Favorite quote that has stuck with me from a random book I found in high school, Annie Salem, by Mac Wellman

I guess this one sticks with me because of my obsession with both nature and southern Americana. And because it's quirky and obscure...

"We Americans love to have a thing explained, taken apart and put back together the way it should. And I would not be one to go back to nature, because all things being equal, I would rather live in a house than in the woods, and I like my fast cars, cheeseburgers, snazzy shoes, and all the rest. Pop music. Pretty girls and their pretty clothes. But part of me simply does not care for the world of explanations, exact calculation of profit and loss, damnation (or any other kind of) theology, interminable wars against small countries to make the world safe, banks, bankers, anyone who wears a serious hat. The CIA. I'd like to spend time solving nonlinear equations, raising hell in my own backyard, uttering the unutterable, and in general finding things out."
